Open Source PIM Systems
akeneo is a rather fresh PIM system which currently celebrates its first birthday. The core team, based in France, published the first Beta version in September 2013, the finale 1.0 followed in March 2014. Akeneo impresses with its comfortable usability and clever functions. So it is possible to check the data quality with widgets and “completeness” at every time. Even a connector to Magento is included out of the box. Besides the free community edition, there are also the “enterprise edition” which offers an extended range of functions against payment. The customers which akeneo won are remarkable as well. “Auchan” and “Cora” two French supermarket chains, for example are listed on the homepage. The next interesting fact is the new platform on which akeneo is based. The “oro Business Application” ( briefly: oroBAP) is the foundation for further systems including marketplace integrations. The CRM-system “oroCRM” was developed with akeneo in the same way. This also offers a connector to Magento out of the box and has a similar ease of use. Currently, akaneo is developing the tool “Diamente Desk”, a support ticketing system. It is exciteding to see which further systems will follow in the ecosystem “oroBAP”. Additionally, a translation management with interfaces to for example Across, SDL Trados or Transit can be added. Further information to PIMagento: http://www.pimagento.de/
The most mature open source PIM system is pimcore, which is available for several years by now. By the end of 2013 the second version was released with many new functions. Due to the steadily extension, pimcore meanwhile has grown to a complete “omnichannel solution”. Besides a CMS system, pimcore offers an own PIM as well as a MAM system. Since the last version, there are two commercial “Enterprise Add-Ons” available. These are a Web2Print and an e-commerce framework. These and further modules are placed on a consistent User Inteface (UI). Further information to primecore 2: https://www.pimcore.org/
