Agile, smart action requires fast and strong decisions

08 December 2020
Ida Lorenz
The current state of information logistics is often a product of different, unconnected developments and grown structures. A central data management, which is strategically anchored in the company's objectives, provides a remedy. But how can the operative goals for realisation in time and budget be guaranteed - in addition to regular daily business?

After previous steps were taken to formulate a data strategy, identify data management requirements and derive concrete actions within the company, the final step is to establish a binding,  comprehensive control and monitoring system for all relevant projects in the organisation.

Few companies can independently meet the challenges of implementing a sustainable data strategy. In most cases there is a lack of personnel, know-how or simply the willingness to work across departments. In central information logistics it is precisely a matter of identifying dependencies and synergies between processes and projects, optimising them in a targeted manner and using them profitably.

In the hectic day-to-day business, however, there is hardly any room for manoeuvre. So, who can make decisions and manage and intervene across projects?

Moderated team development processes help to establish rules of cooperation to move forward together. When defining roles, it is possible to work out jointly whether the required specialist knowledge can be covered internally by further training or whether new employees need to be recruited - and what their profile must look like for this.

"Business first" should not be an excuse for keeping programme management and relevant data initiatives on the back burner. And most importantly, it should not be an excuse to neglect further development and the derivation of further conclusions and activities.

In times of skill shortages, external programme managers or interim managers can be a good alternative to bring in required know-how and bridge personnel bottlenecks. Stefanie Rößler, Principal Consultant in our Strategy Consulting Team, explains in the following video (short and sweet) what benefits this offers a company. This brings our video series "Data strategy: different perspectives - common goal" to a close.

Do you need further information, and would you like to learn more about our product "Programme and Interim Management"? Then you are welcome to contact us.

There are many projects and programs in companies. Many of them focus on the topic data. Each one of them demands high attention to achieve their usually ambitious goals.

Often however, there are not enough links between the individual different subjects. There is a lack of a common view of the data scope, of necessary internal changes or of comparison with an appropriate data strategy. To leverage synergies from data, an overall control is required.

Experienced program management sets the data initiatives in a common context, anchors them in the data strategy and measures their success at management level.  For the necessary roles and resources, we take the responsibility along with you.

As program manager or interim manager, we control directly, experienced and target oriented. Or we help you with the training of internal employees. Interested? Let's talk straight.
